Emergency hire specialist Nationwide Hire has employed three new apprentices – Emily Doole, Stephanie Rees and Amira Collins who are Supplier Supervisors, checking and controlling what’s happening with customer orders – a role that’s at the heart of the firm’s mission to deliver the highest levels of customer service in the hire industry.
Lee Fisher is HR and Training Manager and explains; “Making sure that every delivery and collection is always on time for the customer is critical to our success as a business and in this role each apprentice is in the perfect position to learn about the company and all its processes. Emily was our first apprentice joining from Fareham College and has made incredible progress. Second was Stephanie, also from Fareham College and then Amira, who was studying A-Levels but realised that she was far better suited to take up the apprentice route”.
Emily Doole explains: “I started my apprenticeship having just turned 17. Without any experience of working in an office environment, I was very nervous but I was welcomed with open arms. Everyone in the team was eager to help and give me numerous opportunities to learn whatever I wanted and needed for my course. My college observer was surprised to see how quickly I settled into the role. I’m much more self-aware now and have really improved my time management and ‘phone skills. If I ever need reassurance, it helps having a team that’s so supportive and helpful. Working here, I’ve seen how committed everyone is to customers and how eager they all are to grow the business. Being a part of this lively business dynamic made me realise just what an amazing opportunity this apprenticeship was.”
Stephanie Rees says: “Learning new skills has been interesting and challenging. I’ve built up my confidence by talking to people on the ‘phone and in person. The support from managers is very good and staff are always around to help if you get stuck.”
Amira Collins adds: “Before I became an apprentice, my view was that we’d be treated differently but I’m treated with respect and trust and being part of the Nationwide Hire team motivates me and makes me determined to be the best I can be. Since joining I’ve gained confidence being in a working environment. Every day I learn more skills and feel myself progress. You can’t get the experience I’ve had as an apprentice by sitting in a classroom working from a text book. Plus, you gain the same qualifications, with support from management and the college who regularly check the progress I’m making. This apprenticeship is giving us all a great platform for achieving our career goals.”
Lee Fisher adds: “As a local employer, we’re keen to encourage young people into our workplace and develop them through a successful apprentice programme. We put in time and effort to help build their confidence and skills which means they quickly become a real asset. Anyone interested in our apprentice programme is welcome to get in touch with me to find out more.”
